Summer reading and thinking ahead to the Darkroom Season

August 22, 2011

Big 'thanks!' to Dana Pionek for sending this link: http://archivale.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2539.

Perfect timing. I was just about ready to start scanning (hate scanning!) If there is one book to read before starting down the emulsion making road, this would be it. I've lost count of how many times I've read it. It's not a 'how-to' in the classic sense of the word. It's certainly not a '...for dummies' book. I've sat here and typed a half dozen sentences trying to describe the importance of Baker's work and back-spaced them all, so suffice to say: a good read.

Also, some great news about film availablity. I've just started working with 3M's version of hydrophilic film. It's readily available, and it comes in two thicknesses — one perfect for LF sheet film and the other for roll. All the info soon!
